It is with great joy that we announce the inauguration program of our new temple, to take place during the weekend of April 19 to 21, 2013. The main worship will be on Saturday April 20, the auspicious day of Ram-navami, also the founding day of our center. The program will also specially celebrate Swami Vivekananda’s 150th birth anniversary. Monks and nuns from all our USA centers are expected to participate in the ceremonies.

Accomodations

A number of hotels are available in the vicinity of the Center. Unfortunately, the center will not be able to accommodate guests during the function.

The Thoroughbred Bed and Breakfast offers the closest accommodations, within ten minutes drive of the center. They have four rooms, each with attached bathroom, and a shared kitchen. Rooms are $100 and $110 per night.

Local hotels can be found via travel and hotel websites, like this one.

Travel

By car: see directions here.

By Metro: The closest Metro station is Glenmont, on the Red Line. Buses 26 and 49 come right by the center from the station. Check the Metro website for more routes.

By train and bus: Amtrak trains and Greyhound buses stop in Silver Spring. Other discount buses go to Union Station in downtown Washington DC, which is on the Red Line.

By Air: Three airports serve the DC area: Baltimore-Washington (BWI), Dulles (IAD), and Reagan National (DCA).

Parking

Our parking lot has space for about 90 vehicles, and we expect to exceed this capacity on Saturday and Sunday.

  • We request our guests to car-pool as much as possible to reduce the load on our parking facilities
  • We request young and able-bodied guests to park nearby, at the Winchester School, 3223 Bel Pre Road. We have permission to use their lot, which will accommodate about 15 vehicles.
  • Uniformed parking attendants will direct guests to available parking spots on Saturday and Sunday.
